Dr. Victor Penner is a fellowship trained subspecialist in glaucoma. He completed his Ophthalmology Residency and Glaucoma Fellowship at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Penner’s practice focuses on cataract surgery and specialty glaucoma care. Dr. Penner performs a wide variety of glaucoma surgeries, each to suit the needs of the patient. He provides office-based laser surgical services as well as the full spectrum of incisional glaucoma surgeries. Dr. Penner has had a lot of success with minimally invasive glaucoma surgery techniques that have been evolving over the past decade. This is particularly useful in helping patients who have both cataract and glaucoma. For those glaucoma patients needing cataracts surgery, it is helpful to perform minimally invasive glaucoma surgery at the same time as their cataract surgery to better help control their glaucoma.
Dr. Penner is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Alberta. He actively teaches medical students, residents, and fellows. He was recently awarded the teacher of the year by the residents at the University of Alberta.
Dr. Penner is also active in medical research. He has numerous publications and conference presentations. His recent focus has been researching quality improvement and finding ways to better deliver care. He is passionate about providing patients with the best care possible.
